Date Night

On our 2 year wedding anniversary, Wes and I decided that it was time to take the kids out to a restaurant, for dinner, with other people around, in public.

Mostly because we wanted to celebrate our big day, but also because we were curious to see how they would act. They both fell asleep on the car ride over. When we arrived, we told the server that we may need the check at any moment. She laughed, "is this the first time they've been out to eat?" "Yep," we said in unison. We got a corner booth and put a babe on each side.

Vivi slept the whole time.
Gavin slept through ordering and salads.
But then he was awake and wanted to get out of the car seat. Surprisingly, he was calm and quiet for the rest of dinner. He took turns sitting on my lap and Wes' lap.
Overall, it wasn't as scary as we thought it would be.

He's a Fanatic

Gavin is a fanatic. He will watch one of our ceiling fans for 10-15 minutes straight. He loves them. When he's fussy, we'll put him on our bed, turn on the fan (with the assistance of some other bamboozling instrument), and he'll usually calm right down. He loves that damn thing. He's definitely a fan fanatic.

She's a Lizard

Vivi is a lizard baby. She's constantly sticking her tongue out (which we can't seem to capture on camera). It's really adorable. It's like she's tasting the air. She likes to stick her tongue out at people and she likes it when people stick their tongues out at her. She smiles and coos whenever we do it. She's also recently begun mimicking you when you stick your tongue out at her. Hence, this is why Vivi is a lizard.

Katelynn Kavanagh Bluvas

On September 3, 2009, our good friends Erin & Andy welcomed their first child into the world. Katelynn Kavanagh Bluvas was born at 6:48pm and weighed 6lbs 8oz. Erin and Andy have been our friends since 2004, when we moved to Alabama. I went to graduate school with Erin at Auburn University and we've been close ever since. They are a great couple and we know that they'll be great parents.

Whether her dad is teaching her how to build her very own Barbie robot or her mom is teaching her how to eat a well-balanced meal, Katelynn will learn many great things from her parents. By watching her parents interact with others, Katelynn will learn that being considerate of others' feelings is an important part of any relationship, that lovingly teasing your mate makes life fun, and that working hard can help you achieve your dreams. If Katelynn is anything like her mom, she'll be organized, a bit particular (love you Erin!), and extremely thoughtful. She'll also value her friendships and possess great initiative and drive. On the other hand, if Katelynn is anything like her dad, she'll be creative, easy-going, and dedicated to her hobbies, while also possessing great problem solving and critical thinking skills.

When I think of who Katelynn will be, I imagine her to be a well-rounded, outgoing little girl with good manners and a thirst for learning. I can't wait to watch her grow up into this little person who I know will be loved by many.

Congratulations Erin & Andy! Give Katelynn a kiss for us!

Sickies

Well, we knew it had to happen sooner or later. On Friday, Sept 4, Gavin got a cold. By Saturday morning, he had the serious sniffles. Poor guy could barely breathe through his nose. That day, I started feeling sick. By Saturday night, I was coughing and sneezing. Sunday was the worst day for Gavin and was becoming a bad day for me too. By Sunday night, Viv started sniffling. We were all sick on Monday and Tuesday. Wes thought he was free and clear until this morning, when he woke up with a stuffy nose. I guess we're just going to have to get used this. All for one and one for all!

The Twins are FOUR Months Old!

Today is the twins' 4 month birthday! Over the last week or so, you've learned a few interesting tidbits about each of our twins. He's a Mover and a Shaker

Gavin is a mover and a shaker. He's got places to go and things to see. He can't be bothered with this doesn't-know-how-to-walk nonsense. He's ready. One of his favorite activities these days is being held over your shoulder and walked around the room. He's gotta move. Sometimes he'll fuss and cry until you walk him around and then it's like a switch gets flipped on and he's smiling and cooing. It's instantaneous. And kind of weird. We're not quite sure if he's crying because he wants to move or if he's simply distracted from his crying when we move him around. Whatever the reason, Gavin's definitely a mover and a shaker.

She's a Flasher

I know we've said that Vivi is a lady. But sometimes, she's also a flasher. What do we mean by flasher? You know, a flasher in the Kendra Wilkinson sense. She loves to grab her shirt or dress and lift it up to her mouth where she proceeds to eat it. In the meantime, she's showing everyone her goodies. We just hope she grows out of this in the next few years. Until then, she'll likely just keep on flashing.

He's a Super Baby

Gavin is a super baby. In addition to the fact that he's just flat out awesome, he also loves to be held in the air and flown around the room like Superman. He loves it. He smiles really big whenever you do it. But, be careful! Just yesterday, I was holding Gavin up in the air, flying him around, and he puked all over my face. Even though I was completely grossed out, he wasn't fazed by it at all. Oh well, he's still a super baby in my book.
