Donuts & Playtime

This past Sunday morning reminded me of my childhood. You see, when I was growing up, my dad worked every Monday through Saturday. So on Sunday mornings, my sister and I would wake up really early with my dad, go to 7-11, get donuts and chocolate or strawberry milk, and then we would either go to the park or go bowling (or both). We would also sometimes bring along a friend (like Rachel, Sarah, Kacie, and/or Sheryce). These Sunday mornings were very important to me (and my sister) growing up.

Well, this past Sunday, Wes and I took the kiddos out for donuts and playtime at the park. We were the only people there for about 40 minutes (which was also common when I was a kid). Gavin and Vivian had a ball running around and climbing the play equipment.

It was a great Sunday morning that I hope we can continue to experience for many years.

"Dis a mine"

Gavin is rather obsessed with telling us that things belong to him, even if they don't. For instance, every single time he sees our car (in our driveway or in a store parking lot), he will tell you, "dis a my car." Or, when V & G are playing, he will tell Vivi that everything they're playing with is his.

"Dis a my ball."
"Dis a my hat."
"Dis a my monkey."
"Dis a my bunny."
"Dis a my blocks."

But everything isn't always his. And if that's the case, he also likes to tell us who the item in question belongs to.

"Dis a Daddy's sammich." (sandwich)
"Dis a Mommy's puter." (computer)
"Dis a Vivi's shoes."

Family Photos

We've been trying to schedule some outdoor family photos with a local photographer every single weekend for the last 5 weeks. But for one reason or another (i.e. Gavin needing stitches, the bad weather, her child going to the hospital, etc.), we've had to cancel our session. Well, we actually got to go today. Almost.

I mean, we got ready in time, beat the photographer there, and even got a few photos taken. But after about 10 minutes (we scheduled a 2 hour session), Gavin decided that he was going to run full-speed toward a small man-made lake. Wes yelled at him, "Gavin, don't get too close!"

And then...

He. Jumped. In.

And was covered in mud. His new clothes (yes, brand new clothes) and hands were covered in mud. Covered. He thought this was very funny. Of course he did.

The photographer, who has 4 children of her own, was very understanding and said that she would gladly reschedule for tomorrow.

The worst part about today wasn't that we had to reschedule again (That sucks too, but oh well). To me, the worst part is that I have to clean his clothes tonight and go through the 2 hour get-ready session again tomorrow. Geesh.

I don't even know what to name this

The other day, Wes and I were about to bring dinner out to the dining room when we heard the twins (who were already strapped into their booster seats at the table) having this delightful conversation:

Gavin: "I penis."
Vivian: "I penis, too."
Gavin: "No no no, Vivi. Daddy have penis. I penis."
Vivian: "Yeah, and Mommy have gina."
Gavin: "Daddy have penis. Mommy have gina."
Vivian: "Budder have penis."
Gavin: "Yeah, I penis. Vivi have gina."
Vivian: "I gina. Yeah."

"Need nap, Budder!"

Yesterday, Gavin only slept for 40 minutes or so at nap time (he's used to sleeping for 2-3 hours in the middle of the day). He was extremely crabby and very sensitive all afternoon. And by 5:30 (when I was starting to make dinner), he was a hot mess.

Gav and Viv were playing like crazy people while I was trying to get something together and Gavin kept getting very upset by rather trivial things. He was cranky. And interestingly, Vivi realized this. She left the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with a pillow and a blanket. She put the pillow on the kitchen floor and proclaimed, "Need nap, Budder! Lay down now! Too whiny!"

To my surprise, Gavin thought this was very funny. He laid down on the floor and let Viv put a blanket on him. Then Vivi proceeded to sit down next to him, pat his butt, and tell him to "Close eyes, Budder." He did and they played this go-to-sleep-nap game for about 20 minutes.

Fav Phrases

Vivi and Gavin are talking up a storm these days. Here are just a few of the phrases that they repeat hundreds of times a day.

Vivian
"Shoes now, Mommy/Daddy."
"Nank you." (Instead of saying "nit nu" like Gavin.)
"No, budder." (Translation: No, brother.)

Gavin
"Where me go?"
"I come, too."
"Get it, Mommy/Daddy."

we thought we'd never say it

Wes and I have recently found ourselves saying things that our parents said to us as kids. For instance, my mom used to always say, "let's not and say we did" whenever she wanted to say no to our requests. When I was little, I had no idea what the saying actually meant. I just knew that it meant we weren't going to get to do whatever it was that we wanted to do.

A few days ago, I heard Wesley say this exact phrase to Gavin after Gavin asked to go play outside (it was 40 degrees and raining). Then, Gavin asked, "Why?" Without skipping a beat, Wes said, "Because I said so."

And by the way, I've also been known to say these phrases and others we thought we'd never say.

Who have we become?!

Petting Zoo

Today, we took Gavin and Vivian to a cute, little petting zoo. They were in love. And what I mean by that is Vivi was in love with the animals and Gavin was in love with touching all of the animals' stuff (i.e. their toys, houses, water bowls, etc.).

This was the scene right when we got there:

We had a great time and will definitely be going again!
