Grandma & Uncle Flip

Wes' mom (Grandma) and brother (Uncle Flip) cam down to visit and help out with the kiddos this week (thank you!). It's been a really nice break from the norm for G & V. One of the things they did this week was take the kiddos to Chick Fil-A. Here are a couple of videos from their outing.

I'll post more about their visit soon...

GG & Max

Last weekend, GG (my mom) and Max (her fiance) came down for a visit. It was a really nice break for G & V, who had been cooped up in the house for most of the week.

GG came bearing all kinds of little trinkets she recently found while she was moving (yes, my mom finally sold her house!). The favorites from the bunch? Gavin absolutely fell in love with a flying plane and Vivian, well, was smitten by a little thing known as LIP GLOSS (i.e. chap stick). In fact, she applied the "gloss" every few seconds for about 48 hours before it was gone. Now she just carries the container around all day.

They played with Jacks on the floor for a while and we watched Bambi for the first time.

And then it was time for crafts! They each decorated a shamrock and a heart.

Of course lip gloss had to be applied during craft time.

Come back again soon!

His "Guys"

A couple of weeks ago, the "guys" came back to put some sod down in the backyard (it was literally a mud pit after all of the construction). Gavin was VERY happy about this. He was screaming, "Mom, my guys back! My guys are back, Dad!" while watching them through the window in the playroom.

Well, he was happy until he realized what they were doing (putting down new grass over the mud). Then, he started screaming at the guys, "Stop guys! No cover my mud! I need that mud! That MY mud! Stop! Stop! Stop!"

Poor kid.

Girl's Weekend ~ February 2012

As I said yesterday, a few of my girlfriends and I had a February girl's weekend in Harrisonburg planned for the last couple of months. Steph, April, Jen, Brandy, Brandy's son (Carter), and Brandy's husband (Iad) came down on Saturday for some food, tv, and relaxation.

Gavin highly enjoyed playing in Aunt Stephie's purse.

And Miss Viv loved wearing everyone's sunglasses.

Carter had a ball playing with his two BFFs and all of the new toys.

Brandy and I compared bellies (Brandy is due April 7th).

The girls left on Sunday morning, but not before we got a few pics.

One week down...

... 8-15 weeks to go.

As expected, the last week has sucked. It all started on Friday (2/24) with the doctor's appointment that showed I had a short cervix. Saturday was great because a few of my favorite ladies (Steph, Jen, April, and Brandy) came down for a pre-planned girl's weekend (I'll blog more about this later). Unfortunately, it wasn't as exciting as planned (we basically sat in our living room, watched television, and ate snacks and pizza). But, we had a lot of fun watching the kiddos play (Brandy's son, Carter, and husband, Iad, also came down) and chatting about anything and everything.

The girls left around 11am on Sunday and then we were on our own. For the rest of the week. Here are the highlights:
  • Gavin snuck into the main floor half bath, filled the sink with toilet paper, and turned the water on HIGH. Until it overflowed. Everywhere. This left a liquid-soaked toilet paper residue all over the floor and sink. By the way, did I mention that he was only in there for 3 or 4 minutes? I'm not sure how he does it.
  • On Monday night, Wes got a stomach bug. He was awake most of the night and sick the entire next day. Tuesday was awful. I was on one couch, Wes was on another couch, and the kiddos were running wild. It was lovely.
  • On Wednesday, Wes got the hiccups. If you know anything about Wes, you know that the hiccups are comparable to the plague for him. He gets them for hours on end (in fact, we had to go to the E.R. for a valium shot after he had a nine-hour bout with the hiccups one time) and they are the deepest hiccups I have ever heard. He got them on four separate occasions through out the day. One hour the first time, 30 minutes the second time, three hours the third time, and two hours the fourth time. It was terrible. Every time he thought they were gone, they came back a little while later. It was ridiculous.
  • Did I mention that the kiddos have been crazy? Well, they have. Ridiculously moody, cranky, and overall confused. They have definitely realized that something is different. How do I know? Well first of all, they ask us tons of questions about the situation: "What's wrong, Mommy?" "Why you layin' down, Mom?" "Why Mommy not coming?" Second, Vivian wants to cuddle with me all of the time (which is just not like her- she's not the cuddly one of this fam) and keeps pretending to be a baby. And Gavin, well, is insane. He's turned into this terribly disobedient child who has blatantly said "No" just about every time I tell him that I'm going to put him in time-out. He has totally realized that I'm not going to get off the couch and he's using this knowledge to his advantage. They're adjusting.
  • We took a trip to the doctor on Friday and got some good news. My cervix has lengthened from 14-16 last week to 24-29 this week! This is very good news! Even though it's still too short (anything under 30 is cause for concern), the hormones and bed rest seem to be doing their job.
  • We had a couple of delicious meals delivered this week- thank you, Sharlene and Lori!
  • GG (my mom) came over this morning and is staying until tomorrow afternoon (I'll blog more about this visit later). This has definitely been a nice break for us.
It's been a crazy first week, but I think we're settling into a groove of sorts. The twins' third birthday party has been postponed until further notice and potty training has been put on hold.

Here's to 8-15 more weeks of craziness!

A Little Excitement

I've been in the market for a blender lately, but could not bring myself to spend $40 on it. So when Aunt Brandy recently found one for $16 (!) and gave me a call, I told her to BUY IT immediately. Well, she brought it by last weekend and earlier this week, we made our first batch of smoothies!

To say the least, Vivian and Gavin were a little excited about it all.

We all can't wait to make more in the coming weeks!

Mar-yur, Sti-yur, Cra-yur

In general, we find it easier to understand Gavin, as opposed to Vivian, when he talks. But there are a few words (or sounds) that Mr. Gavin is completely incapable of pronouncing. One of these sounds is a "ck" sound. But, only if its in the middle of a word. He can clearly say any word that begins with a "c" sound, but when its in the middle of a word, that "c" or "ck" sound turns into a "y". Just watch the videos to see what I mean.

The first video is of Vivian saying the words: marker, cracker, and sticker.

The second video is of Gavin (who was a little upset at the beginning) trying to say the same three words.

I don't know why he does it, but he's terribly consistent.
