The Ralphs: Week 25
Well, the sixth month is half over (the third trimester begins on March 15th), I'm getting bigger and bigger each day, and the Ralphs are growing and developing as you read this post. Specifically, 33 rings, 150 joints and 1000 ligaments are beginning to form in the spine this week. Another interesting development is that the Ralphs' nostrils are opening and they are able to practice breathing through them. Interesting stuff...

The Ralphs: Week 24
This week, the Ralphs are hopefully gaining about 6 ounces each, which will put Ralph around 1 pound 12 ounces and Ralphina around 1 pound 10 ounces (given the weights we were told last week during our ultrasound). Their lungs are gaining blood vessels now, which will help them breath when they're born. Although they can move around, the membrane that separates the two of them keeps them on their respective sides. Also, even though they're spearted by a membrane, they can still kind of touch each other through it. I know, it's confusing.

The Conversation that Changed Our Lives Forever
Ultrasound Tech (UT): "So, how are you feeling today?"
Me: "Good. But I'll be better when you tell me there's only one in there."
UT: (as she puts the ultrasound wand on my belly) "There's two. One, Two."
Me: "What? You're kidding. I was joking. You're joking too, right?"
UT: "You didn't know? You're having twins."
Me: "No! We didn't know! OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG! Are you serious?"
UT: "Yes, I'm serious. You're having two babies. You're going to have to control your breathing or you'll hyperventilate."
Me: (breathing in my nose and out of my mouth) "OMG."
Meanwhile, Wes has jumped out of his chair to see the screen more clearly. I looked at him, he looked at me. The moment was priceless.

Baby's First Ultrasound
Sike! Here's the "real" ultrasound...
Okay, so that's not our real ultrasound either, but there are definitely TWO babies! We're having twins!
Real pictures are on the way!

Pass the Papaya
Today marks the end of week 22. For the next few weeks (weeks 22-24), Ralph will be as big as a papaya. Weighing between 12.7 and 20.8 ounces and at a length of 10.5 to 11.8 inches, our little one is capable of listening to me and Wes (and a loud tv) talk about anything and everything. Ralph is also settling into sleep patterns. He or she is only awake for about 12 hours each day, but not all at once. When he or she is awake, Ralph is kicking, punching, and swimming up a storm and Wes has actually been able to feel those movements a few times by now. Exciting stuff...
