Boppy Time

This morning, Viv and Gav decided to play together in their boppy. They had a ton of fun elbowing, kicking, biting, and kissing each other...

Vivi

FYI: The baby noises are not coming from Vivian. They're coming from her brother who is a couple of feet away.

What's Up Doc?

Today, the twins had the first of many appointments with their pediatrician, Dr. Johari Miller.
They were weighed and measured, poked and prodded, and kept naked the entire time (which they did not enjoy at all). But, don't worry, we kept them snug as little bugs in their blankets when they weren't being checked out.
Through out the appointment, the doctor tested their development and they passed with flying colors! Most notably, they've each gained a significant amount of weight since their birth on May 9th. Gavin and Vivian were both 4lbs 9oz at birth and now Gavin is 5lbs 9oz and Vivian is 5lbs 6oz! At this rate, they'll be double their original weights before we know it!

The Sleepy vs. The Awake

This has been a popular scene at our house in recent days. Vivian is asleep and Gavin is wide awake. Vivian is being quiet while Gavin is making his little grunts and girgles. Vivian is winding down while Gavin is beginning to get rowdy. Go figure.

I guess our initial one-week assessments of their personalities may have been a bit off.

Coming Home

After twelve long days in the NICU (on Thursday, May 21), the twins were given the ok to come home! On Thursday morning, we brought them back to the NICU from our night of rooming-in with them and they were checked out for the last time. Everything was perfect and we were finally ready to go! Well, we had to fill out and sign a large stack of paperwork first (everything was doubled). But then, we were on our way!

Before we could leave, we had to put them in their new preemie carseats. They were both too small for the original carseats we had (but, don't worry, they'll grow out of these carseats soon and then we'll switch them to their other carseats).
Then, it was off to the car!
We are both so incrediby excited to have them both home!

Rooming In

We have some GREAT news! Gav and Viv will both be coming home with us tomorrow (5/21)! In the mean time, the NICU is letting the babies "room in" with us tonight so that we can have a practice run before we take them home. I know, you're probably wondering what room we're staying in. Well, every night since I was discharged on May 13, Wes and I have been staying at the hospital, where there's a great program for NICU parents-- NICU parents get to sleep in patient rooms for free while their babies are int he NICU. So, the babies are rooming-in with us in the room that we've been sleeping in for the last week or so.

We heard about the "rooming-in" program early last week and have been anxiously awaiting the day when the doctor gave us the ok to take them. Well, it finally happened this morning! We packed up the babies and pushed their cribs to our room.
Once we got here, the twins cuddled
and just hung out together.
So far, we've had a lot of fun with them
during our rooming-in extravaganza.
All we have to do now is bring them back to
the NICU in the morning for a final check-up
and then we'll get to bring them home!

Model Material

I may be a bit biased,
but I think he might be model material...

Two Babies, One Bed

Since our babies are twins and twins like to be very close to each other, the nurses decided to put Vivian and Gavin in the same bed last night. We were thrilled! Unfortunately, they haven't had as much time together as we've wanted them to, but now they'll be together all of the time.

When we put them together last night, Gavin was sound asleep and Vivian was wide awake. This created an interesting photo opportunity. At first, Vivian just looked at her brother and continued to do some of her normal squirming. Then, after a minute or two, she seemed to realize that he was there and gave us an amazingly adorable surprised look as if to say, "That's my brother! Where did he come from?" These pictures below illustrate what happened when the twins were reunited...
