we thought we'd never say it

Wes and I have recently found ourselves saying things that our parents said to us as kids. For instance, my mom used to always say, "let's not and say we did" whenever she wanted to say no to our requests. When I was little, I had no idea what the saying actually meant. I just knew that it meant we weren't going to get to do whatever it was that we wanted to do.

A few days ago, I heard Wesley say this exact phrase to Gavin after Gavin asked to go play outside (it was 40 degrees and raining). Then, Gavin asked, "Why?" Without skipping a beat, Wes said, "Because I said so."

And by the way, I've also been known to say these phrases and others we thought we'd never say.
