Health Update

Even though they started out so small and were born almost 6 weeks early, Gavin and Vivian are now (and have been for a few months) up to speed with their non-preemie 11-month old counterparts. Here are some of their health stats.

  • As of April 15th, Gavin weighs 22lbs 8oz and Vivian weighs 22lbs flat.
  • They are both wearing 12 and 18 month old clothing, but a good amount of their 12 month stuff is way too small for them.
  • Gavin is getting ear tubes put in on April 26 because he's had fluid in his ears for many months now.
  • Vivian is going to be taken off her medication for her hemangioma (a bumpy birth mark that usually doesn't cause any problems at all, but since her hemangioma was so close to her eye, it was impeding on her vision and had to be taken care of). This is great news to us because the medicine has been causing her to have terrible nightmares for the last 6-7 months.
Currently, they both have colds. It sucks. And, these colds haven't been improving their sleep schedule. The good news is that they're still in good spirits and still eating like little piggies.

Hey Jennie!

I loved the update! Your babies are doing so well!! Have they tried any meat yet? I hope they start sleeping well soon. Just think about it this way...most parents will have two separate years of bad sleeping--at least you're getting it over with all at once.

Here's Katelynn's stats:
green beans: 2 stars (she eats them!)
peas: 3 stars
carrots: 4 stars
squash: 3 stars (i think they made her sick the other day though; she gagged during dinner and then woke up at 8:30, vomiting 5 times in one hour! poor baby--all better now though! could have been a bug but she had no other symptoms)
sweet potatoes: 4 stars
pears: 4 stars
bananas: 5 stars
apples: 2 stars (too tart)
peaches: 2 stars (too tart)
puffs: 3 stars (she's getting the hang of the pincers)

We don't do breakfast yet, but she usually has half a jar of a green veggie and half a jar of fruit for lunch and some water (for practice) in a sippy cup. For dinner, she usually has oatmeal, puffs (for practice), half a jar of yellow veggie, and milk in a sippy cup (drinks this pretty well but can't do it herself yet).

She weighs 18 lbs and other than the sick episode last week and the RSV back in January, health seems to be good.

We've been lucky with sleep. from 2-4.5 months, she slept from 8 until 6. from 4.5 months until almost 7 months, she woke up anywhere between 10:30 and 1am and then again between 4 and 6--always to eat. now she's back to sleeping through the night pretty well (7pm-6:45am), with wake ups for a quick feeding every few nights or so.

No teeth yet but i look everyday--she's biting everything!
i miss you!
