One week down...

... 8-15 weeks to go.

As expected, the last week has sucked. It all started on Friday (2/24) with the doctor's appointment that showed I had a short cervix. Saturday was great because a few of my favorite ladies (Steph, Jen, April, and Brandy) came down for a pre-planned girl's weekend (I'll blog more about this later). Unfortunately, it wasn't as exciting as planned (we basically sat in our living room, watched television, and ate snacks and pizza). But, we had a lot of fun watching the kiddos play (Brandy's son, Carter, and husband, Iad, also came down) and chatting about anything and everything.

The girls left around 11am on Sunday and then we were on our own. For the rest of the week. Here are the highlights:
  • Gavin snuck into the main floor half bath, filled the sink with toilet paper, and turned the water on HIGH. Until it overflowed. Everywhere. This left a liquid-soaked toilet paper residue all over the floor and sink. By the way, did I mention that he was only in there for 3 or 4 minutes? I'm not sure how he does it.
  • On Monday night, Wes got a stomach bug. He was awake most of the night and sick the entire next day. Tuesday was awful. I was on one couch, Wes was on another couch, and the kiddos were running wild. It was lovely.
  • On Wednesday, Wes got the hiccups. If you know anything about Wes, you know that the hiccups are comparable to the plague for him. He gets them for hours on end (in fact, we had to go to the E.R. for a valium shot after he had a nine-hour bout with the hiccups one time) and they are the deepest hiccups I have ever heard. He got them on four separate occasions through out the day. One hour the first time, 30 minutes the second time, three hours the third time, and two hours the fourth time. It was terrible. Every time he thought they were gone, they came back a little while later. It was ridiculous.
  • Did I mention that the kiddos have been crazy? Well, they have. Ridiculously moody, cranky, and overall confused. They have definitely realized that something is different. How do I know? Well first of all, they ask us tons of questions about the situation: "What's wrong, Mommy?" "Why you layin' down, Mom?" "Why Mommy not coming?" Second, Vivian wants to cuddle with me all of the time (which is just not like her- she's not the cuddly one of this fam) and keeps pretending to be a baby. And Gavin, well, is insane. He's turned into this terribly disobedient child who has blatantly said "No" just about every time I tell him that I'm going to put him in time-out. He has totally realized that I'm not going to get off the couch and he's using this knowledge to his advantage. They're adjusting.
  • We took a trip to the doctor on Friday and got some good news. My cervix has lengthened from 14-16 last week to 24-29 this week! This is very good news! Even though it's still too short (anything under 30 is cause for concern), the hormones and bed rest seem to be doing their job.
  • We had a couple of delicious meals delivered this week- thank you, Sharlene and Lori!
  • GG (my mom) came over this morning and is staying until tomorrow afternoon (I'll blog more about this visit later). This has definitely been a nice break for us.
It's been a crazy first week, but I think we're settling into a groove of sorts. The twins' third birthday party has been postponed until further notice and potty training has been put on hold.

Here's to 8-15 more weeks of craziness!

We are thinking of you. When it rains, it sure does pour, eh? I hope this week will be as smooth as possible!
