Impromptu 88th Birthday

I know what you're thinking: how could an 88th birthday celebration be "impromptu"? Well, his actual birthday wasn't. But our decision to drive up to West Virginia to celebrate was. Wes' grandfather turned 88 this week and we figured out that we could go see him on Saturday morning on Friday night.

You see, we weren't aware of the celebration prior to Friday. And I had planned a girl's night in Harrisonburg for that Saturday (post to come). So when Wes' brother and mom talked to Wes on Friday about going to celebrate PopDad's 88th in WV the next day, we thought we couldn't make it. Then, we asked if it could be a morning visit instead of mid-day (my girlfriends wren't planning to come down until about 1pm). The celebration was moved to an earlier time and we were set to drive up (about an hour and 45 minutes) in the morning.

We arrived at a restaurant in Martinsburg around 9am, had breakfast with Wes' mom, dad, brother, and his brother's girlfriend. Then, we went over to the Veteran's Hospital (where Wes' grandfather lives) with some delicious cake and happy children. We sang, we ate, and we talked.

We wish we could have stayed longer, but we were really happy to at least have been able to visit for a little while. Happy Birthday, PopDad!
